The Enemy Confused and Overcome

Now as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel. But the Lord thundered with a loud thunder upon the Philistines that day, and so confused them that they were overcome before Israel.
1 Samuel 7:10

Remember, Israel was defeated before their enemies in a previous battle. Yet the moment they got right with God, Helistened to Samuel who was interceding for the people. When they faced the enemy this time, it would be a different situation. Israel was anointed by God’s Spirit, and they were powerful because He was in their midst. The Lord was going to help Israel and give them the victory.

God had seen Israel’s heart of repentance and moved to give them deliverance. Notice, as the Lord thundered upon the Philistines, He confused them, and they were easily overcome. The Philistines were defeated. Who fought and won the battle for Israel? The LORD!  He expanded Israel’s borders by restoring their territory from the hands of their enemies (1 Samuel 7:14).

In the same way, God will work in our lives. The moment we repent of our sins and cry out to the Lord, He listens. The Lord will fight our battles. God will begin to bless us and expand our borders. He will give us victory instead of defeat. Our confidence, trust and faith should remain in our God. What do we have to worry about if our lives are right with God? If God is for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31)

When God foresees that we must meet a deadly opponent, he assures our victory by bringing us down in humbleness at His own feet. After that, everything is easy. We have put ourselves in a position where God can fight for us, and in a situation like that, the outcome is decided from eternity.
