Promises for Those Who Believe

Is the law then against the promises of God? Certainly not! For if there had been a law given which could have given life, truly righteousness would have been by the law. But the Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.
Galatians 3:21-22

Underline these important verses in your Bible. Paul gave the Galatians another good question. Is the Law against the promises of God? Certainly not! God forbid! The purpose of the Law was to draw a person to the love and mercy of Christ. As the Law shows us we are sinners, it helps us to realize our need for a Savior. The Law helps reveal the grace of God to us. We now understand that we need the grace of God in our lives.

If God wanted to make the Old Testament saints righteous through the Law, He could have done it, but He did not! Remember, when they killed a lamb, under the Law the blood sacrifice was only a covering for their sin, but when Jesus Christ came, He put away our sins once and for all (Hebrews 10:1-8). God remembers our sins no more: “For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more” (Hebrews 8:12).

Christ removed our sins and gives eternal life: Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption (Hebrews 9:12). We are all sinners, but the promise of salvation has been given to us! The Law leads us to Jesus Christ. Sin is put away, and we became righteous before God.

Again, Salvation is not attained by the keeping of the Law. If the Law could save a person, then we would not need Jesus Christ! Understand, all the way through Romans and Galatians is seen the thread of faith. It is woven all the way through! Have you chosen to believe by faith in Jesus Christ for salvation?

He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.
