Hiding from the Call of God

And when Samuel had caused all the tribes of Israel to come near, the tribe of Benjamin was chosen. When he had caused the tribe of Benjamin to come near by their families, the family of Matri was chosen. And Saul the son of Kish was chosen. But when they sought him, he could not be found. Therefore they inquired of the Lord further, “Has the man come here yet?” And the Lord answered, “There he is, hidden among the equipment.”
1 Samuel 10:20-22

Notice, Saul had been anointed to be the King of Israel, and just as Samuel was ready to introduce him to the tribes of Israel, when it really came down to taking the position, Saul was nowhere to be found.  Even though Saul was tall and handsome in his outward appearance, he had a great weakness in his personality. Saul hid on the day of his coronation.  He did not have the courage or boldness to say, “Yes, I am going to become king.” Instead, Saul was trying to hide from the call of God.

I really believe Saul did not have the leadership skills to lead God’s people. Although Saul had a small hint of humility in his life, hiding from the call of God was not a sign of true humility. Saul did not what to be king or serve God. In the end, the Lord had to expose where Saul was hiding to Samuel and the people; he hid among the equipment.

The people of Israel did not really know the truth about Saul; they had no idea what they were getting into! Think about it. What if that happened when the President of the United States was elected? Instead of the President addressing the public in front of the TV cameras and accepting office, what if he was found hiding in the closet? What would people think? They would question, “What kind of man is this?”

There are Christians who will hide from the call of the Lord. Even though they have been anointed by Him, they will not operate under the power of God’s Holy Spirit. Are you hiding from the call of God?

Churches were fruitless and failing because the men leading those churches had “missed their way,” when it came to the divine call to ministry.
