Indwelling Spirit

But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
Romans 8:9-10

Christians are no longer walking in the flesh––but in the Spirit. The Spirit of God dwells in them. How did this happen? It came about through a new birth––regeneration. When a person sees themselves as a sinner and repents, a new life is given to them through Jesus Christ (John 3; 2 Corinthians 5:17, Titus 3:5). We are righteous because of our faith in Christ. God has shown us His mercy.

Paul had already explained to us about the first and second Adam. The first Adam sinned in the Garden of Eden, and then the second Adam [Jesus] came to take away our sin. This is so beautiful because we have been freed from the Law of sin and death. Christians will not die eternally. We never, ever have to worry about eternal death as long as we abide in Christ and remain obedient to God’s Word. God will continue to guide and lead us. The problem comes whenever a person sins and steps out of fellowship with God.

When a person becomes born again, they are grafted into the Vine. This truth of the Vine is very important in our Christian lives, because Jesus taught His disciples: I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing (John 15:5). As we come to Jesus by faith, we abide in Him. He makes us who we are today––a Christian––one who loves and serves God.

Also, Christians cannot be divided in heart and life; they have to stand for righteousness. Think about it. You are leaving a legacy behind for your children and grandchildren. People will know you by your fruits.

The work of the Spirit is to impart life, to implant hope, to give liberty, to testify of Christ, to guide us into all truth, to teach us all things, to comfort the believer, and to convict the world of sin.
