Ready to Meet the Lord
Then Saul said to his armorbearer, “Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised men come and thrust me through and abuse me.” But his armorbearer would not, for he was greatly afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword and fell on it.
1 Samuel 31:4
When Saul’s sons were killed, Saul was hit by the archers and he was wounded unto death. His injuries were so severe, he knew he would die, but he did not want the Philistines to get to him before he was dead. He knew they would torture him, so he asked his armorbearer to finish him off.
Saul was the king of Israel and his armorbearer was to serve him. He would not do what Saul asked, so Saul did it himself. He took his sword and fell on it.
The saddest thing about this whole situation is that Saul knew he would die this day. Samuel told him he would die, and even to the end he had the chance to repent, but he did not do it. It is unbelievable. He was wounded unto death; he did not die outright. God gave him the chance to repent, but he did not do it.
We do not know the day or the hour of our deaths. Even if you have a terminal illness, you still do not know the day or the hour. We need to live every day of our lives as if they are our last. We need to be ready to meet the Lord every single day. No one will cheat death. We have no choice; every person will die physically. The only choice we have is whether we will die spiritually. Think about it, before it is too late.
It ought to be the business of every day
to prepare for our last day.
