Is Your Life Built on Shifting Sand?

“But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”
Matthew 7:26-27

Jesus gave a comparison of a wise man building his house on the Rock. This person not only heard God’s Word, but wisely applied those principles into his life. When storms came, his house stood. However, the foolish person built his house on the sand. He failed to apply God’s Word to his life. As the storms of life came, the rain, winds and floods, his house did not stand––it fell.

Once again, using an illustration, Jesus revealed who really is the true believer. How can we tell? The evidence is seen when a person’s life is tested. Did they stand? Carnal, fleshly people do not have a solid foundation; they do not have Christ’s assurance in the storms of life. Why? Even though they may hear God’s Word, they do not obey.

Christians may begin to question God when they go through times of testing. They may ask God, “Why is this happening?” Some may bring false accusations against God. Who do they think they are? Just because they are His children, do they think God will roll out a red carpet for them? Understand, as God’s children, sometimes they have to go through affliction.

Christians have to go through the fire of affliction, testings and trials because God is building character in their lives. He is building a solid foundation, so be open to the Holy Spirit.

An honest man with an open Bible and a pad and pencil is sure to find out what is wrong with him very quickly.
