Our Calling Is According to God’s Will

Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God....
Ephesians 1:1

We know the author of the book of Ephesians was Paul the Apostle. He was one of the greatest Apostles who ever lived. Paul was called to be an Apostle by God’s divine call. His name Saul was not used after God anointed his life; instead, especially ministering to the Gentiles, he used the name Paul. In the Greek language Paul means “little one.”

Throughout the book of Ephesians you will notice the phrase “in Christ.” This speaks of our position–– it is “in Christ.” You are either “in Christ” or “outside of Christ.” God’s call on Paul’s life “in Christ” was to be an Apostle.

In Christ, what has God called you to be? Many people believe the highest call a person can have is to be called into the ministry––to be a pastor or an evangelist like Billy Graham––that is not so. Why not just be yourself? As a child of God, the highest calling you can have is to be wherever God has placed you. This means, whether you are a student, a housewife, an athlete, a doctor, a lawyer, surfer, plumber, or involved in business, this is your high calling. Imagine what a great privilege it is to be a mother. While the husband is away making a living, the wife has the responsibility of training her children. They are her little disciples.

Some people are dissatisfied with their lives and calling. Then how can God use them to the full extent He desires? Wherever God has placed a person, they need to be content and do the best they can, to the glory of God. Think about all the great opportunities they have as they come into contact with different people every signal day. They can be such a witness for Christ.

Understand, you are called by the will of God, by His grace, to be what you are in Christ. Paul said ...by the grace of God I am what I am... (1 Corinthians 15:10). God has called, anointed and blessed you!

Let every man abide in the calling wherein he is called, unless there be to him some special call from God to devote himself to the ministry.
