SON OF DAVID
Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying: “Hosanna to the Son of David! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ Hosanna in the highest!”

Palm Sunday begins our journey into Passion Week––the final days leading to Jesus’ death on the Cross and His Resurrection. Jesus entered the city of Jerusalem humbly, riding on a donkey. This momentous event is known as His Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem––an incredible moment in history which fulfilled the prophecy of Zechariah 9:9.
In power, Jesus cast out demons and healed the sick, blind and lame. He had taught the people and ministered to their needs. From five loaves of bread and two fish, He miraculously gave them food to eat (Matthew 14:13-21). Jesus’ fame had spread widely. He had done so much for the people. For now, the multitudes loved Jesus. They lived in oppression under the harsh rule of the Romans who occupied the nation. Surely their Messiah had come to save them? Hopeful, as Jesus entered the holy city, they called to Him, “Hosanna to the Son of David.” Others in the city asked, “Who is this?”
Earlier in Jericho, a blind man, Bartimaeus, called out to Jesus from the side of a road. Multitudes of people followed the Lord, but Bartimaeus, unhindered, shouted out to Jesus. What title did he use when he called out for mercy? By faith, he had called out, “Jesus, Son of David.” He used a title that acknowledged who Jesus was––the Christ––the One whom the Scriptures foretold to come from the royal lineage of King David.
Jesus stood still. Heasked the blind man: “What do you want Me to do for you?” Bartimaeus requested to receive his sight. Jesus healed Him, rewarding his faith, and made him well (Mark10:46-52).
Who is Jesus to you? Do you have faith in the Son of David? Do you realize what He can do for you? As sinners, we need His mercy.
Without faith we are not fit to desire mercy.
