I, John, both your brother and companion in the tribulation and kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was on the island of Patmos for the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ. (Revelation 1:9)
To add to the persecution, things are even worse because John cannot say anything encouraging to those people under the tyranny of Emperor Domitian. There he sits in exile, away from it all. The best he can do is pray, make notes, and hope that his written words would get into the hands of those house Christians he longs to comfort. As in John’s experience, when the throne of malevolence below is wreaking havoc in your life, remember that there is a benevolent throne above.
