All things were created through Him and for Him. (Colossians 1:16b)
All things were created by Him, through Him, and for Him. Normally, the modern mind thinks of Christ as just the Creator of the heavens and earth. Here, Paul includes the visible and the invisible, whether they are powers, rulers, or authorities. The average modern reader of the New Testament doesn’t know that these were words used in the ancient world to refer to angelic or heavenly powers. These were the kinds of powers that some false teachers were urging the Colossians to worship. However, Christ as the Creator is superior to them.
