Google conducted “Project Oxygen,” a multiyear research initiative, to identify manager qualities that enhanced a given team’s success. According to the Harvard Business Review, Google discovered that drive and technical expertise were outflanked by some surprising character qualities.
These qualities included: being even-keeled, making time for one-on-one meetings, working with a team in the trenches, and taking an interest in employees’ social lives.
Results are important, but many leaders overlook the importance of developing strong relationships with their team.
King David emphasized relationships throughout his career to the point that God considered him a shepherd. In Psalm 78:72 we read, “So he shepherded them according to the integrity of his heart, and guided them with his skillful hands.”
A fruitful leader has heart and invests in developing strong relationships.
