Assurance of Salvation Part 2 – The Sealing of the Holy Spirit
Our salvation depends completely upon the grace of Jesus (Ephesians 2:8-9). If you have confessed with your mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead you are SURELY saved (Romans10:9)! Praise the Lord! But just as we are saved by God’s grace we are also sealed by God’s grace (Ephesians 1:13-14). In this incredible passage we are told that the Holy Spirit has been given to us as a “down payment” of what is to come. If the Holy Spirit is the down payment then what must the payoff look like? This does not mean that we will never sin again. Check out Romans 7 to see Paul's own struggle with personal sin. I like to refer to this chapter as Paul’s double talk due to the strain in his soul over his own struggle against sin. Many wrongly teach that the struggles in this life are over once we receive Jesus Christ and believe in him. Nothing could be further from the truth for then the battle has just begun. But we do not struggle alone. Just as God’s grace saves us, God’s grace will keep us.
