A Forgotten Dream?
This devotional was written by Leslie Snyder

Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.  Proverbs 19:21

The audience was fixed on the demonstration.  Three colors of light mixed together to become white.  Then, when the presenter signaled, hundreds of students began waving their open hands up and down in front of their face.  Through this blur, the one white color appeared to separate into three distinct colors of red, yellow and blue.  It was one of the most creative illustrations of the Trinity I have ever seen and was done by a man named Steve Jacobs.

Steve “Jake” Jacobs is the Discovery Channel’s Chief Scientist and appears on the shows Mythbusters and Dr. Know.  But long before he landed this dream position, he was just a young boy with a dream.  As a child, Jake loved science and the show Mr. Wizard.  In fact, his secret dream was to meet Mr. Wizard and to be on the show.  Of course, he kept this dream in his heart, telling no one.  As an adult, Jake became a science teacher, club sponsor and speaker.  Yet there was still one unfulfilled wish in his heart: the childhood desire to meet Mr. Wizard and be on his show.

One afternoon, Jake received a phone call that changed his life.  As he answered it, the voice on the other end said, “Jake, this is Mr. Wizard.”  Thinking it was a joke, Jake laughed, and hung up the phone.  A moment later, the phone rang again.  The message was the same.  “Jake, this is Mr. Wizard,” and once again, Jake hung up the phone.  Minutes passed before the next ring.  This time the voice on the phone said, “Jake, don’t hang up.  If you will listen to my voice, you’ll know who this is.”  That call was the invitation he’d been dreaming of for nearly forty years.

God had not forgotten the dream of a boy.  In fact, it was God who placed that dream in his heart in the first place.  Sound unbelievable? Think of Abraham, Moses, Joseph, Anna, Simeon or Paul.  Each had dreams and promises from God that took years and even a lifetime to fulfill.

Has God placed a dream deep in your heart? I know He has in mine.  And what seems like forgetfulness on God’s part is often a time of preparation on ours.  Never doubt that there is a purpose for your life.  You are uniquely designed to fulfill God’s plan for you.  Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans for wholeness and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

Today, if you feel forgotten, rest in the fact that God’s timing is not our own and that even when it seems like nothing is happening, God is still at work.
