God works in you
Pastor Daron Lindemann

An executive assistant answers your e-mails, balances your calendar, and in general keeps you on top of your game. But he or she can’t pry open the dark corners of your heart where sin hides and change your bad habits. That’s a job for God. He not only works for you but in you.

“Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen” (Hebrews 13:20,21).

God owns peace. And God’s peace is always peace no matter what kind of storm rolls in, no matter which rumors spread, and no matter whose opinion differs from yours. His peace works in you.

His resurrection works in you too. You might drive by the wreckage of an accident, take a glance, and move on. And if you catch sight of blood splattered on the windshield, you might gasp!

God’s blood was splattered on the cross, and it was not an accident. That blood works in you as an eternal covenant, unbounded and unbreakable in its commitment to save. No less available on bad days. No less effective on public sin. No less faithful to guilt-ridden Christians who know they should be doing better.

Let your life on the outside look like the work God is doing on the inside.
