Who Completes You?
 By Stephanie Davis

When the devil had finished every temptation, he left Him until an opportune time. Luke 4:13 (NASB)

My life would be complete if…

As I think about the numerous ways I have tried to complete this sentence…

I finished college… were married… became a mother of 2 children… became a stay at home mom… had friends who loved me and accepted me for me… were thinner… had a bigger car… could stay ahead… attended church more… read my bible more… prayed more…

As I think of all the energy I’ve wasted pursuing things that have only left me feeling incomplete, exhaustion consumes me!

In a perfect world would I be complete? Would I be satisfied?

I can’t help but think of Eve – sweet, sweet, innocent Eve. She lived in a perfect world. A world where she had everything she could ever need and want right at her fingertips, yet still when presented with the opportunity to have more… she indulged.

We were created with one thing in mind…

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)

… to do the good works in which God has already prepared for us to do. Why?

Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:16 (NASB)

So that our Father… God the Father… would be glorified in and through each and every one of us. When we strive after anything other than Him, and what He created us for… what He prepared in advance for us to do… we will be left feeling incomplete.

Eve took her eyes off the Father, presented Satan with “an opportune time” and allowed him to guide her desires, and we are all paying dearly for her discontentment.

Each and every time we take our eyes off the Father and begin looking elsewhere for satisfaction we also provide Satan with “an opportune time.” One he will most certainly take advantage of, and just like Eve, we will pay dearly for our discontentment.

Oh Daddy, I come running to You today… seeking protection under Your wings. You have warned us through Scripture that satan is coming and he is coming with one objective… to steal, to kill and to destroy… PERIOD. Allow me to be aware of the dangers that lie in wait.

Lord the enemy is powerful, but praise be to You that he no longer has authority over my life. Oh God… how it thrills my soul to know that I am irretrievable from Your strong and mighty hands. It’s in this place… Your hands… that life becomes full… full to the point of overflowing. May my eyes always be fixed on You and You alone. For it’s in Jesus’ wonderful and powerful name I pray… Amen.
