In his first letter the Apostle Peter is concerned about how believers are living in their unbelieving culture. He stresses, “If you get in trouble, if you suffer from the government, don’t let it ever be for stealing.” The fact that he had to tell them this indicates that in the 1st Century some of the believers in the church were breaking the 8th commandment. The Apostle Paul confronted this same problem in the Corinthian church. And right among Jesus' original Twelve, there was a thief who ended up betraying him. That's why the Apostle Peter commands us to “Wake up!” He’s telling us to wake up morally and respond to the power of Jesus in our lives.
