Lying is becoming the norm. Tell a lie, and then when you're caught in the lie, you accuse your accuser of lying. Soon our communication loses any connection with what actually happened. But we must beware! The ninth commandment is still valid, "Don't bear false testimony against your neighbor." God's commandment takes us right to the setting of a courtroom. Suppose you're falsely accused of murder, and two witnesses get on the stand and claim you did it? This is the scenario Jezebel used to get Naboth killed so that Ahab, her husband, could get the land he coveted. Before we adapt this lying lifestyle we need to go back and read what happened to Jezebel and Ahab in the end. We need to face what happens to the cause of Christ when we bear false testimony. The Lord Jesus tells us that lying comes from the evil one. In John 8 he says, “You lie. You are of your father, the devil. He’s lied from the beginning. He is a murderer and a liar.” Where can we find truth? The only person in all the universe that we can find truth in is in the person of Jesus Christ.
