In Deuteronomy, the second giving of the Law, Moses called again for sexual fidelity and argued strongly against adultery. But when we read on in the Old Testament, we discover that Israel became a nation filled with adultery. How did this rejection of God's moral Law work out for Israel? How will it work out for any people who choose to believe they can create their own ethical norms? God didn't just sit up in heaven and come up with arbitrary rules to make our life hard. He designed us, and his moral laws express his loving guidance that will protect our lives, our families, and our possessions. When we receive Jesus, he generates a new life that no longer rebels against God's guidance but delights in obedience.
