If, when Jesus was living, His disciples went around telling everyone, “He’s the Messiah, He’s the Messiah,” it would have produced a revolution. Jesus was going to generate a completely different kind of revolution. It would be a revolution not built in the manifestation of brutal violent power, but a revolution that is very hard for us to understand. The greatest power of Jesus would be displayed, not when He healed a cripple or raised the dead, but when He was totally weak, totally helpless and totally at the mercy of His enemies. That is when His omnipotence would gain the greatest victory.
