God wants us to remember that when we obey him, he's there for us. This is the point that Moses in Deuteronomy makes again and again. He also goes on to expose the reality that his people won't obey the Lord. They will disobey and be exiled, but then totally rooted in God's mercy, they will return. They will return to God and he will give them a new heart, a circumcised heart that is sensitive to God and obedient to his word. And in the New Testament we discover that it's not only Jews who can receive this new heart; anyone can receive God's heart transplant by simple faith in Jesus Christ.
