Why in the world do we get up in the morning? I can remember when I got up to throw a football more accurately, to get A's in Chemistry, in Hebrew and Greek, to prepare a better sermon, or to get another speaking engagement on the evangelical circuit. All of these life purposes over time have lost their power to give my life purpose. Ecclesiastes was right when it asked, "What does a person gain by all their toil under the sun?" And then answered, "Nothing!" Life under the sun is empty, but life in the Son yields meaning and purpose that lasts forever, and Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew points us to this life purpose that lasts.
