If you are really going to understand what the Bible is teaching about our relationship with God, it needs to begin with, “We have a totally unpayable debt to pay to God.” I remember as a kid playing football, after one down on the kickoff when the guy came down and laid me out, it made me angry. Some of my coaches would say, "Now you're good and angry, ready to play. Make them pay." Not good advice for a football player, and especially bad advice for living. Where does that come from? Where does that vicious anger that wants to make somebody really pay come from? It comes from an unpayable debt that is inside of my heart. If we’re going to really have biblical faith, we need to understand what our problem is outside of Christ. Our Savior teaches us not to get angry, but to be forgiving. "Forgive us our debts as we forgive those who trespass against us." He forgave us!
