Nothing to Take
by Berni Dymet
Mark 6:8 He ordered them to take nothing for their journey except a staff; no bread, no bag, no money in their belts.

Let's imagine for a moment that you're Jesus. You decide to send the twelve disciples out - two at a time, on a field trip. A short term mission to put into practice the stuff they've been learning.

Good decision. So you start planning the trip -right. Now, what do I need to organize?  Accommodation...Transport. They'll need some money. I mean, you just can't send them out there without anything.

But look at how Jesus actually did it - He ordered them to take nothing for their journey except a staff - no bread, no bag and no money - not even a change of clothes. Why?

Sometimes we get to thinking of God being like some corporate executive - a strategic planner, a CEO, a consulting guru all wrapped up in one.

But that completely misses the point. His ways are so radically different to ours. I mean imagine - sending them out with nothing.

His ways aren't our ways. His thoughts aren't our thoughts.

So many things in this world promise so much … and yet, so often, they fail to deliver. God’s promises, on the other hand, never fail. Well … we know that in theory and yet, too many of those who believe in Jesus, somehow don’t quite seem to manage to lay hold of God’s promises in practice. How exactly do you live in the promises of God? Well, that’s what our latest Life Application Booklet is all about: It’s Time to Take the Promised Land.
