There are many stories of men and women in Scripture who worshiped God in an exuberant way, but perhaps the greatest example is found in the story of Mary Magdalene. John tells us in chapter 12 of his Gospel that one day she came to Jesus and poured expensive perfume all over his feet. Then, to the surprise of many, she bent down and washed his feet with her hair! What an incredible display of praise! If we ever forget what true, undignified worship to God looks like, all we need to do is turn in our Bibles to John 12:11 and be reminded.
Scandals abound in a drama cast in the ancient Persian Empire. In the midst of political intrigue and betrayal, a beautiful orphan girl suddenly becomes the leading character, as God’s providence rescues His people from certain death. At first glance, Esther is the heroine and Mordecai the master manipulator. Take a closer look, however, and you’ll discover that behind the scenes, God is pulling the strings as His sovereign providence unfolds.
