Esther: The Shadow Sovereign
Scandals abound in a drama cast in the ancient Persian Empire. In the midst of political intrigue and betrayal, a beautiful orphan girl suddenly becomes the leading character, as God’s providence rescues His people from certain death. At first glance, Esther is the heroine and Mordecai the master manipulator. Take a closer look, however, and you’ll discover that behind the scenes, God is pulling the strings as His sovereign providence unfolds.

About Dr. Stephen Davey

Stephen Davey is Senior Pastor of Colonial Baptist Church and President of Shepherds Theological Seminary, as well as principal Bible teacher on the "Wisdom for the Heart" broadcast. He attended Liberty University and Tennessee Temple University, graduating in 1981. He holds a Master of Divinity degree from Detroit Baptist Theological Seminary and a Master of Sacred Theology degree from Dallas Theological Seminary. An STS sister seminary in Chennai, India honored him with a Doctor of Divinity degree.

Following graduation from Dallas, the Daveys moved their young family to Cary, NC in 1986 to found Colonial. From the beginning, Stephen preached in an expository style, and as word spread of the church's solid scriptural foundation, the new fellowship began to grow.

Today, three Sunday morning worship services accommodate the 2,800 households who call Colonial "home". Both morning and evening church services are streamed through the Colonial website: live services on Sunday and archived sermons. Stephen also serves as the president of fully accredited Shepherds Theological Seminary, directing Wisdom for the Heart and fulfilling his primary ministry duties as pastor/teacher of Colonial Baptist Church. The beautiful campus with its colonial-style buildings is home to both the church and the seminary.

Dr. Davey is an author whose well-crafted sermon series have been published in book form by Charity House, Ambassador/Emerald House, Kress Biblical Resources, and Wisdom for the Heart. He has written three commentaries and numerous smaller books.

Stephen and his wife, Marsha, have been married 29 years and have been blessed with four children: twin sons Benjamin [wife Caroline] and Seth; daughters Candace and Charity.
