There was a time when the entertainment industry was bound by a code that forbade the use of blasphemy in a movie. The code stated among other things the following: "Pointed profanity - this includes the words 'God,' 'Lord,' 'Jesus,' 'Christ' (unless used reverently),.....is forbidden." Those days of the Hays Code are long gone. Today's movies are filled with the irreverent use of God's name. Not only movies but other forms of entertainment constantly belittle the name of God and his servants. Is this not wrong? Why is it that an earlier generation thought it wrong to misuse God's name and forbid such misuse in entertainment? Today, we shake our fists in the face of God and drag His name in the mud and think nothing of it. Yet, there is a higher code than the Hays Code which says that such language is wrong. It is the code of God's moral law. That law says that we should not use God's name in an irreverent way. Our society today has thrown off all restraints. Anything goes. Yet this cannot last. We are making ourselves ripe for judgement. Judgement will come if we as a nation do not repent of our great sins toward a holy God.
