The divorce rate in America was fewer than 5% in 1880 and except for a spurt upward after WWII remained relatively low until the mid 1960's onward when there was a dramatic increase. Today the divorce rate is around 50%. According to the Barna Research Group survey made in 1999, the divorce rate among Christians is the same or even higher than non-Christians. Divorce in America is a great problem. Jesus commented on divorce in the Sermon on the Mount and saw it is a moral problem.
