Where does truth come from? Is there an absolute truth? Today's society treats truth very relatively. Different people have different ideas of what truth is. Jared Hood in Love Rules, The Ten Commandments for the 21st Century, writes, "Ours is an age of intellectual relativism: the only truth is that which is true for me. Ours is an age of media hype: images and feelings are more important than a person's reputation. Ours is an age of unrestrained personal ambition, self-esteem, and selfishness: I deserve comfort and happiness, and will do whatever it takes to get it. The ninth commandment, therefore, directly collides with our post-modern culture, because this is the command about truth." (p. 81) God's Moral Law teaches that there definitely is an absolute truth and it calls us to be a people of truth. When a society lives by God's Moral Law, then truth will prevail. When a society rejects God's Moral Law, then truth will be hurled to the ground and trampled upon. We are called to cultivate truth in our lives. This commandment applies to us individually and also to us as a society.
