This part of the Lord's prayer teaches us to depend on God daily. It goes against self confidence, independence, and pride. This petition humbles us before God and shows us that we need Him. This petition strips away our veneer of self dependence and self righteousness and shows us that we must look up to our creator for the very life we have for we are taught to pray, "Give us this day our daily bread."
