One day, someone asked Jesus this question: "Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?" Today's modern prophecy experts tell us that things are going to get worse and worse and as far as this age is concerned the church will go down in defeat and have to be raptured out of the way in the near future. Some will be saved but we cannot expect more than a remnant from the peoples of the world to come to Christ in the short time that's left. Our primary purpose at the end of this age is to be a witness to the nations. The future for the church in this age is not very optimistic according to many prophecy experts today. What we should look forward to is not victory for the kingdom of God in this age but the rapture that will take us away from this world before the greatest of all tribulations comes and the AntiChrist is revealed. Jesus taught something quite different, I believe. He taught that the church will definitely be victorious in this age and that many will come into the kingdom of God from all over the world. In answer to the person's question whether only a few would be saved, Jesus points out that only a few of the Jews of that day would be saved because of their unbelief and rejection of the Messiah but He pointed to a much brighter time when the gospel would go forth into all the world and people from every direction would come into the kingdom of God. His outlook for the world was very optimistic, far different from today's prophecy experts.
