References: Ephesians 2

John Calvin wrote, "And our Lord Jesus Christ, to show in what condition he finds us, says that he is come in order that the dead should rise at his voice." We have been so contaminated with sin that the Bible says we are dead. Calvin goes on to say, "It is not without reason, then, that our Lord Jesus Christ uses this similitude, saying that we are raised from death by means of the gospel." It is only as the Holy Spirit applies the gospel to our hearts that we can be delivered from this condition of death.
