Fasting in the Presence of God

References: Matthew 6

Jesus said in Matthew 6:1, "Be careful not to do your 'acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven." In this whole section of the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus is talking about personal righteousness. That is, how are we to live our lives in the presence of God. All that we do is to be done as unto the Lord living in His presence. We are living our lives in His presence and so how we live is very important. The ultimate goal in our lives should not be to please men first but God. That is the right order. This week we apply this to the matter of fasting and its implications to the rest of life.
