Before Jesus returned to heaven, he commissioned his disciples to carry on His work. This commission not only applied to them but to the whole church throughout the coming age. David Brown wrote, "In that little band Jesus virtually addressed Himself to all who, in every age, should take up from them the same work." (p. 134, The Four Gospels) The commission or command was to be perpetual with every generation of Christians taking it up and carrying it on. Today, we have the same commission and are under the same obligation and duty as the first Christians to take it on to our generation and beyond. The vision that Jesus had for His kingdom and gospel was a world wide one. He saw His kingdom not as one that would be defeated but as one that would win the whole world. Today, we need to rekindle that vision in the church and take up a new and afresh the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ to carry the gospel to the whole world.
