Martin Luther talked about a political righteousness, a ceremonial righteousness, and the righteousness of the Law. Then he says, “Over and above all these there is the righteousness of faith or Christian righteousness, which is to be distinguished most carefully from all the others.” Being righteous before God is a matter of faith. A man becomes righteous before God through faith in Jesus Christ.
