A: We’re told in 1 Peter 5:8, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.” The devil is loose in the world today; he’s walking up and down it just like he did in the days of Job. At that time the Lord called him to account, because he’s a creature and therefore has to report to the Lord. The Lord asked him, “Where have you been?” and he said, “Going up and down the earth.” (See Job 1:7 and 2:2.) This earth is the domain of Satan. He’s been by your place and my place several times. I’ve always felt like his headquarters was here in Los Angeles, though. It used to be in Pergamos. In the Lord’s letter to the church in Pergamos in Revelation 2, he said to them, “I know thy works and where thou dwellest, even where Satan’s seat is” (Revelation 2:13). That was his headquarters in that time. But he goes up and down the earth seeking whom he may devour. And believe me, he does a good job of that by the way — a lot better job, I’m afraid, than some of us do. When you look at this earth today, it does look like Satan is running things, does it not? God is overruling all things, but He has given Satan a period of freedom. We are told that this world in which you and I live is controlled by Satan. He must be overcome, and we can only overcome him by the blood of the Lamb.
