On this edition of the White Horse Inn the hosts discuss the launch of Michael Horton's new book, Christless Christianity: The Alternative Gospel of the American Church. "Christless Christianity" has been the overall theme for the WHI throughout 2008, and now the hosts take another close look at this topic and interact with interviews from respected journalists and theologians from across the spectrum on this important matter.
Is there a new trend among American Evangelicals to give up on Church? That's the thesis of a new book by Julia Duin, author of Quitting Church: Why the Faithful are Fleeing and What to do About It. On this program the hosts talk with the author and discuss the implications of her findings.
On this edition of the program the hosts take a look, not at the national Presidential elections, but at the biblical doctrine of election, and the lack of coverage that this crucial component to the idea of salvation by grace alone receives in Christian circles today. The White Horse Inn: "know what you believe and why you believe it."
Last week the hosts defined the boundaries of the Christian faith, but this week they will spend some time examining the substance of true faith and practice, specifically taking a look at the marks of a true church. A recent study conducted by Willow Creek Community Church discovered that the most committed among their church members were the most vocal about the lack of theological depth, and were among the the most dissatisfied with the worship. Yet the conclusion to the report was that Willow Creek needs to do a better job encouraging their members to become "self-feeders." In his recent book Revolution, George Barna suggests that Christians no longer need to join churches, but rather should simply look for life-coaches, and helpful information for spiritual growth via the internet.
