  • Let me tell you about something that I used to struggle with. I didn’t feel I had much of a testimony. You feel like you have to apologize for a boring testimony. Let me tell you there is no testimony of God’s saving grace that is boring.
  • In a world changed by 9-11, economic uncertainty, a roller coaster stock market, unfathomable national debt, congressional disunity, governments being overthrown around the world—in a world of fear, instability, chaos, change, and uncertainty—how do pastors, the lead ducks, stay calm and demonstrate confidence. How can we make sure we are transferring the right emotions and actions to those who follow?

Leadership

Prayer & Spiritual Life

  • In Revelation, Jesus spoke to the group of believers in Laodiciea: "I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm — neither hot nor cold — I am about to spit you out of My mouth." So, what does a lukewarm Christian look like?
  • My challenge for you is very simple: live a life of No Reserve. No Retreat. No Regrets.
  • Okay, so something happens at work you don’t especially appreciate. More than just frustrating, it simply wasn’t right. How should you respond? The follower of Jesus should be the best employee. He should be the hardest worker. She should demonstrate skill and efficiency. But remember it’s about more than the job. Jesus uses every aspect of our life to stretch us and grow us into the followers He desires us to be.

  • God’s grace shows up in many ways. Sometimes it is warm, as we experience his overwhelming love. Sometime it is tender, as he takes us by the hand and helps us up. Sometimes it is instructive, as he brings us to our senses and, like the prodigal, walks us back home. And sometimes it is tough, shaking us awake from our spiritual slumber.
  • The world is full of distractions. God does not put up with competition. The reason? He is God. Nothing else or no one else compares.
  • God loves us so much that he went to drastic measures to save us. And God loves us so much, that he will go to drastic measures to restore us as his children.
  • The writer to the Hebrews says that God disciplines those he loves. We should not “lose heart” when God disciplines us. While it is not pleasant, it is a sign being his son or daughter.
  • Since God loves his children, he will discipline us. God’s discipline is certainly not pleasant, but, coming from our loving Father, it is a tremendous teacher. Like the prodigal son, discipline brings us to our senses and puts on us the road back home.
  • Sometimes there is no place left to turn. When God is all we have, we find that God is all we need.
  • The more I develop as a follower of Jesus, the more I realize my weaknesses. Our strength is never found in ourselves; it is found only in our Savior.
  • The Christian life becomes stale and powerless when we attempt to strengthen ourselves by any means. The strength to live a life pleasing to God is not something we conjure up on our own.
  • I sometimes struggle as to how to pray for my children. Paul’s prayer for the Ephesians is a great prayer for our children. It is a prayer that focuses on the essential thing.
  • Because of his faith in Jesus, Paul was given 39 lashes on five different occasions, beaten with rods, and stoned. Paul said, “I have been hungry and thirsty and have gone without food.
