The message of Amos was one of woe to the nation of Israel. The Day of the Lord was coming, but it would not be a time of deliverance from their enemies. It would be a time of judgment.

God called the prophet Amos to preach a lamentation to the people of Israel, because of their sin. He was proclaiming the death of the nation, because the Assyrians would take them captive.

God gave several reasons why Israel was being judged. Israel was the chosen nation, but it had sinned. God had promised to punish them for their sin. And Israel had been persistent in its sin.
