The contrast between Joseph and his brothers is great. Joseph had integrity; his brothers were immoral. Yet through it all, God used the most unlikely people to bring the Messiah into the world.

Joseph’s brothers remembered his dream, and they tried to keep it from being fulfilled. At first they wanted to kill him, but then they decided to sell him into slavery so they could make a profit.

Jacob loved Joseph more than all his children. Joseph’s brothers knew that, and they hated him for it. And Joseph’s amazing dreams got him into trouble with them.

Jacob's preferential treatment backfired when his favorite son, Joseph, ended up at the bottom of a cistern, and then was sold into slavery. But God was still faithful, and His providential hand redeemed the situation.
