Moses has spent 40 years in the wilderness working as a shepherd. And now God commissions him to lead the Israelites out of bondage. Moses had needed to learn the lesson of humility.

By not doing things God’s way, Moses spent 40 more years in the desert before he could become Israel’s deliverer. In the meantime, the people continued to cry out to God for help.

Moses was raised as a prince of Egypt, but he knew his true heritage. He acted with compassion when he killed an Egyptian who was beating an Israelite, but it was the wrong way to deliver his people.

Moses’ parents feared God more than they feared Pharaoh. So they hid their son away to save him from Pharaoh’s command that all male Jewish babies were to be killed.

400 years after the events in Genesis, the pharaoh did not know all that Joseph had done for the Egyptians. He was worried that the Jews were more in number and stronger than his own people.
