We can't add to God's work of salvation, but we can cooperate with Him in our own growth. Philippians 2:13 says that God will give us not only the power to do His will, but also the desire.

Crucifixion was a uniquely horrible form of execution. So when Philippians says that Jesus was "obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross," it shows the true humility of Christ.

Though He was "true God from true God,"” Jesus came to earth to be a servant. Jesus lived His life in submission to the Father - and we are never more like Jesus than when we humble ourselves.

Living for Christ, as pictured in Philippians 1, requires consistency—what you do should match what you say. It also requires unity with other believers, working together rather than fighting among ourselves.

In Philippians 1, Paul talks about desiring to depart this world and be with Christ, "which is far better." But he is also willing to remain in the world for the benefit of the believers, to help them progress in their faith.
