We Will Love One Another

June 28, 2010
Jesus' love is a unique and amazing love that He would like us to have and share with others. He tells us that if we show this special kind of love, people will be convinced that we are disciples' of Christ. In this message, Pete uses the story of the man with leprosy to demonstrate how Jesus' love is distinct in three different ways so we can impact others with His love. From John 13:34, this is the first message in Pete Briscoe's 7-message series titled "Love One Another."

God came in Christ to offer us forgiveness through the cross. He rose again the third day and set about bringing the world back home. "Talk to me," says the Father. "Prayer is the means; I have made a way." But there is a problem - we don't know how.

A bewildered human race is like a man lost in a forest asking, "Father, are you there?" In 1945, at the end of World War II, Helmut Thielicke, a brilliant theologian, preaching through the Lord's Prayer to what was left of his congregation in the ruins of his church in Stuttgart said, "Everything will be all right so long as we hear His good voice calling to us above the howling of the wolves, above the sound of branches snapping, above the ominous noises around us. God is always there." A Christian worldview believes in the Fatherhood of God.

Sociologists tell us that the "father/child relationship" is the weak link of the family. Whether or not this is true, Scripture has many helpful things to say about fathers, and when taken seriously, they lead to effective and blessed fatherhood.

You've messed up again. It isn't the first time and it probably won't be the last time. You gave in to some temptation in your life and now you have to make a choice - how do you respond? The Bible says if you are a believer, your sin has already been forgiven and forgotten by God because Jesus took your sin and nailed it to the cross. Even though sin doesn't sever your relationship with God, it does affect it, creating strain and distance. In this message from Pete, he teaches what to do after you've sinned to right your relationship with God and release the guilt by replacing it with His peace.

Feelings are fleeting. The number of divorces today is evidence of that. In fact, so many of the temptations that trip us up are a result of giving in to feelings - of bitterness, pleasure, power, greed. Feelings can take us down! Pete explains the reason we struggle with sin: We don't "feel" like we've died to sin, so we don't live that way. However, the Bible is clear that once we are believers, we are new creations in Christ and sin goes against our new nature. It's our choice... we can give in to sin if we choose, but it no longer has power to force us to yield. What temptation do you wrestle with? Listen to Pete's serious but uplifting message on how to face it and gain victory over it.
