The Secret Weapon to Resist Temptation - Part 2

September 15, 2015
Feelings are fleeting. The number of divorces today is evidence of that. In fact, so many of the temptations that trip us up are a result of giving in to feelings - of bitterness, pleasure, power, greed. Feelings can take us down!

Pete explains the reason we struggle with sin: We don't "feel" like we've died to sin, so we don't live that way. However, the Bible is clear that once we are believers, we are new creations in Christ and sin goes against our new nature.

It's our choice... we can give in to sin if we choose, but it no longer has power to force us to yield. What temptation do you wrestle with? Listen to Pete's serious but uplifting message on how to face it and gain victory over it.

We all want just a little bit more... more money, more time, more beauty, a bigger house, a fancier car. The more we get, the more we want, and we never find satisfaction. If we can’t find satisfaction (the gratification of desires), maybe the problem really lies with our desires. In Ecclesiastes, the author tried to find satisfaction by filling his life with the best of many different things but found them all to be “meaningless.” Yet Paul tells us in the book of Philippians that he found the secret to contentment: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” In this message, Stuart explains how desire and satisfaction are connected and guides us to the place where we, like Paul, can find contentment. With teaching from Philippians 4:10-13, this is the final message in Stuart Briscoe's 5-message series The Search for Answers.

How do you handle temptation? Do you just give in, shrug your shoulders, and say it's just the way you are? Do you give in and blame Satan? Or do you rely on God and in His power resist the temptation? Every temptation that comes our way is an opportunity to go wrong, but it is also an opportunity to do right, and Scripture tells us that God will never allow us to be tempted beyond what we can bear. In this message, Stuart helps us understand what temptation is and where it comes from, and he encourages us to find opportunities to do right when we’re tempted to go wrong. This is the 4th message in Stuart Briscoe's 5-message series The Search for Answers.

Life is full of uncertainties and unpleasantness. So it is no surprise that mild anxiety, chronic worry, and sheer panic abound. Such things are injurious to our health, relationships, and general well-being. But is it possible to find peace of mind? With teaching from Philippians 3:20-4:9, this is the 3rd message in Stuart Briscoe's 5-message series The Search for Answers.

While church attendance in America is declining, many non-attenders claim to be Christians, apparently assuming that one need not be a church-attendee to be a Christian. But if we look in the book of Acts at the church of Antioch, we see that the words "Christian" and "church" had different meanings than they do in today's society. In this message, Stuart walks us through the biblical definitions of these words and explains how the church is a vital way for Christians to grow. With teaching from Acts 11:19, this is the 2nd message in Stuart Briscoe's 5-message series The Search for Answers.

When you hear the phrase "born again" what do you think of? For many people today, being "born again" simply means a change or a new outlook on life. But is that what Jesus meant when he said that we must be born again? In this message, Stuart takes us through Jesus' conversation with the Pharisee Nicodemus and helps us understand in context what Jesus was really saying. With teaching from John 3:1, this is the 1st message in Stuart Briscoe's 5-message series The Search for Answers.

Called to unlock the door to the secrets of God's saving grace, Paul followed the footsteps of Jesus. They were principles that fueled his amazing life and made him a "world shaker." We can own those principles, too, and shake up our world for Christ. This message includes Jill's poem, "God Dropped By." Acts 21-23
