The Darkening Sky, Part 2

July 29, 2016
Have you experienced a darkening sky in your life? When you find yourself there, do you shine brighter for it, or flicker out? Esther's life seemed to be a downward spiral of difficulties. But she continued to shine brightly for God in the unbelieving kingdom of which she was now queen.

As Jill takes you through the amazing story of Esther, a simple Jewish girl made queen, you will see that you, too, can be empowered by God to keep shining his light, even in an ever darkening sky.

Based on Esther 2, this is the 3rd message in Jill's 6-message series, God in the Shadows.

Sometimes God's will isn't what we would have picked out for ourselves. It isn't what we want. And it's difficult to accept. Esther's life didn't turn out how she wanted it to. She found herself separated from her family and married to the unbelieving King of Persia. Through these trials, God made Esther into a Supernova, shining even more brightly in the hardships. But before she could get there, she had to die to her own dreams and her own plan. Are you willing to do the same? Based on Esther 2, this is the 2nd message in Jill's 6-message, God in the Shadows.

If God called you to a difficult task in a difficult place, would you shine light into that place? Would you, like Esther, be a star for God? Esther is a great example of someone who faced seemingly impossible circumstances. She was forced to marry a very powerful, very worldly man: the King of Persia. While not many of us can relate to such a circumstance as Esther had, we can learn from her faith and obedience. You are right in center stage of where God wants you to be and what God wants you to do in your life. Will you be obedient? Based on Esther 1, this is the 1st message in Jill's 6-message series, God in the Shadows.

It used to be that a marriage ceremony was the only glue necessary to keep a couple together. But today, more than ever, marriage has come under attack, and there are many forces pulling couples apart. The forever after we dreamed of, now exasperates us. In this fourth message in his series, Sticking Together When We're Pulled Apart, Pete Briscoe deals with the difficulties we face in keeping our marriages together. How do we keep the promise of "I do" when we're overwhelmed with the feeling of "I can't"? Matthew 19:1-9 & Colossians 1:15-17

It used to be that a marriage ceremony was the only glue necessary to keep a couple together. But today, more than ever, marriage has come under attack, and there are many forces pulling couples apart. In this second message in his series, Sticking Together When We're Pulled Apart, Pete Briscoe points us to God's road map to marriage - to leave our parents’ home and be united as one. Could it be that our ability to stick together is directly related to our decision to create a healthy and loving distance from our parents? Genesis 2:20-25

But today, more than ever, marriage has come under attack, and there are many forces pulling couples apart. In this first message in his series, Sticking Together When We're Pulled Apart, Pete Briscoe explores how the differences that once attracted us to each other now irritate and frustrate us. If we believe that God made us different for a reason, and he doesn't make mistakes, can we move beyond gender tendencies and embrace our differences in order to enrich our lives? Genesis 1:26-27 & Matthew 19:1-4

Very often, you will find that when there are problems in marriages, people go for counsel, go to seminars, and read books to get practical advice on handling money, communicating better, dealing with sexual problems, improving their parenting... But rarely are they told that the fundamental problem is a spiritual one. For if you've got two people living in the fullness of the Spirit, submitted to the Lord, and submitting to each other, you'll have a fertile piece of property in which a flourishing marriage can be expected.

You will find his logic compelling as he brings a fresh, practical perspective to the Scriptures. Born in England, Stuart left a career in banking to enter the ministry full time. He has written more than 50 books, received three honorary doctorates and preached in more than one hundred countries. He was senior pastor of Elmbrook Church in Brookfield, Wisconsin, for thirty years, and currently serves as minister-at-large.

Jill Briscoe was born in England and found Christ when she was 18 years old. She never looked back. Upon graduating from Cambridge University, she began working as a teacher by day and had a vigorous street ministry to the youths of Liverpool by night.

She met Stuart at a youth conference and they married in 1958. In the 50 years since, Jill has become a highly sought-after Bible teacher and author who travels around the world ministering to under-resourced churches and speaking at international seminars and conferences. Since 2000, she and Stuart, who was formerly senior pastor of Elmbrook Church for 30 years, have had the joy of equipping and encouraging believers across the globe in their roles as ministers-at-large for Elmbrook.

Jill has authored more than 40 books including devotionals, study guides, poetry and children's books. Her vivid, relational teaching style touches the emotions and stirs the heart. She serves as Executive Editor of Just Between Us, a magazine of encouragement for ministry wives and women in leadership, and served on the board of World Relief and Christianity Today, Inc., for over 20 years.

Jill and Stuart call suburban Milwaukee, Wisconsin their home. When they are not traveling, they spend time with their three children, David, Judy and Peter, and thirteen grandchildren.
