Setting Out to Shake the World

September 2, 2013
Paul had a heart as big as the world, a vision as high as the sky, and a life that marches down the stairway of time into our little lives - enlarging them forever. He was a mover and a shaker - a "world shaker." From this point on in the narrative, Paul would be in prison and bondage until the end of his course on earth.
Acts 21-22

Where do you invest your money? The Bible tells us that where our treasure is, there our hearts are also. Pete explains the parable of the dishonest manager in Luke 16, where we are taught to be wise with our money. In the end, we can't take it with us, but we can send it ahead by storing up treasures in heaven, through investments of eternal significance. This the 3rd message in Pete's 3-message series "Making Your Life Count."

Life is a race. And at the finish line, we'll stand before Jesus and be evaluated on how we did. Pete shares with us three things that every athlete knows, and every Christian needs to know. He leads us to several verses that will help us pattern our lives toward experiencing a positive judgment. This the 2nd message in Pete's 3-message series: "Making Your Life Count."  I Corinthians 9:24-27

Would you like to have the answers to the most important final exam? Does that almost seem too good to be true? Well, not if you're a Christian. Pete gives us the criteria that we will be evaluated on at Jesus' second coming, as found in Romans 12. This the first message in Pete's 3-message series "Making Your Life Count."

As the church of Jesus Christ, what is the main thing that we're supposed to keep as the "main thing"? Is it finding the lost? Reaching seekers? Discipling believers? Caring for the poor? Creating community? Sending missionaries? Offering Bible studies? These are all good things, but the main thing is not a thing at all. The main thing is a person, and that person is Jesus Christ. In this message, Pete Briscoe takes us to Revelation 1:9-20, where we see a powerful, symbolic image of Jesus standing among the churches. John's apocalyptic writings enhance our understanding of Jesus' divine sovereignty, authority, character, purpose, and love for us.In John 10:10, Jesus said, "I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."He forgives our sins so that we can experience life in Christ.

Having explained the "lake of fire" destiny of those whose names are NOT written in the "book of life," John's attention is now directed to what those whose names are recorded might expect in the coming age.Revelation 21:1-22:21

On three occasions in his visions, John has seen the great climax of this world's history (the vision of the seals, trumpets, and bowls). But now he returns to the subject and reveals more details of the events constituting the end of the age.Revelation 19:11-20:15

In his visions of the "Seals" John "saw" the judgment of God at work in the affairs of mankind. In the "Trumpets" he recognized how God in grace warns mankind of impending judgment. But in the "plagues" the judgment has finally come. It's the End.Revelation 15:1-19:10

About Stuart and Jill Briscoe

Stuart Briscoe uses wit and intellect to target your heart, capture your attention and challenge you to grow! You will find his logic compelling as he brings a fresh, practical perspective to the Scriptures. Born in England, Stuart left a career in banking to enter the ministry full time. He has written more than 50 books, received three honorary doctorates and preached in more than one hundred countries. He was senior pastor of Elmbrook Church in Brookfield, Wisconsin, for thirty years, and currently serves as minister-at-large.

Jill Briscoe was born in England and found Christ when she was 18 years old. She never looked back. Upon graduating from Cambridge University, she began working as a teacher by day and had a vigorous street ministry to the youths of Liverpool by night.

She met Stuart at a youth conference and they married in 1958. In the 50 years since, Jill has become a highly sought-after Bible teacher and author who travels around the world ministering to under-resourced churches and speaking at international seminars and conferences. Since 2000, she and Stuart, who was formerly senior pastor of Elmbrook Church for 30 years, have had the joy of equipping and encouraging believers across the globe in their roles as ministers-at-large for Elmbrook.

Jill has authored more than 40 books including devotionals, study guides, poetry and children's books. Her vivid, relational teaching style touches the emotions and stirs the heart. She serves as Executive Editor of Just Between Us, a magazine of encouragement for ministry wives and women in leadership, and served on the board of World Relief and Christianity Today, Inc., for over 20 years.

Jill and Stuart call suburban Milwaukee, Wisconsin their home. When they are not traveling, they spend time with their three children, David, Judy and Peter, and thirteen grandchildren.
