Renewed Disciplines

January 28, 2014
The orientation of much modern spirituality is inward. That of Christian spirituality is upward and outward. Not that the inward is neglected but it requires a focus on "things above" to motivate and empower us to discipline what we find within ourselves.
Based on Colossians 3:5-8, this is the 2nd teaching in Stuart's 3-message series, Spiritual Renewal.

It is generally agreed that the Western world is in need of spiritual revival. Historically, cultures have been revived when the church has been renewed. But the church is renewed one believer at a time. So let us pursue personal renewal beginning with a renewed focus.Based on Colossians 3:1-4, this is the 1st teaching in Stuart's 3-message series, Spiritual Renewal.

You can believe that Jesus is alive by looking at the evidence and trusting it because it's the best explanation for what happened. But you can know Jesus is alive by spending some intimate time with Him. If you believe He's alive and you have your eyes open to see Him, you'll see Him all over the place.Based on Luke 24:1, this is the final message in Pete's 9-message series Derailed by Doubt, which is centered on common questions that can knock someone's faith off track.

Why, in a faith that brings so much abundant life, do Christians spend so much time focusing on the death of Jesus?  Because every sin ever committed, Jesus wiped away at the cross. From the death of Jesus, you and I find true life!Based on Romans 3:9, this is the 8th message in Pete's 9-message series Derailed by Doubt, which is centered on common questions that can knock someone's faith off track.

The fundamental difference between Christianity and every other religious worldview is that we get to know the founder. We get to have a personal relationship with Him, and then, by His Spirit, He lives insides us and guides our lives.  Jesus changes everything, and He claims to be the only way to the God. Is he? Based on Acts 4, this is the 7th message in Pete's 9-message series Derailed by Doubt, which is centered on common questions that can knock someone's faith off track.

There are many religions, but Jesus said He was the only way to God. The Bible teaches that God comes down off the mountain to us, changes us on the spot, lives inside us, and then takes us to the top. That's how Christianity differs from other world religions.Based on John 1:14, this is the 6th message in Pete's 9-message series Derailed by Doubt, which is centered on common questions that can knock someone's faith off track.

Believers in Jesus Christ will tell you that they have checked the ice, stepped out in faith, and have found Him to be trustworthy. Biblical faith is based on historical evidence and eyewitness accounts.Taken from Matthew 9:27, this is the 5th message in Pete's 9-message series Derailed by Doubt, which is centered on common questions that can knock someone's faith off track.

God cannot be measured, calibrated, cataloged, or experienced with the five senses. You can't touch Him, you can't see Him, and you can't hear Him. That's true of love, too, though, isn't it? You can't experience love with the five senses, but you know it's there because you've felt the effects of it. Just because we can't see or taste something doesn't mean it's not real. And the same is true of God.Based on Acts 17:16, this is the 4th message in Pete's 9-message series, Derailed by Doubt, which is centered on common questions that can knock someone's faith off track.

Can the Bible and science co-exist, or do you have to reject one and believe the other? God wrote the New Testament so that we might believe that Jesus was who He said He was, that He did what He said He did, and that He actually works in people's lives today. The Bible is designed to communicate God's loving plan for mankind. Based on Romans 1:20, this is the 3rd message in Pete's 9-message series, Derailed by Doubt, which is centered on common questions that can knock someone's faith off track.

The Bible is the true, inspired Word of God - living and active, timely and timeless, sacred and practical. The sad thing is many in our world and our neighborhoods don't see the Bible as God's infallible love letter to us. They have either been convinced it's unreliable, or they have never really thought about it long enough to make a decision.Based on 2 Timothy 3:16-17, this is the 2nd message in Pete's 9-message series, Derailed by Doubt, which is centered on common questions that can knock someone's faith off track.
