How to Obey the Bible - Part 2

July 1, 2015
Many of us live a Christian life that's like a saggy bed. We're rock firm on one end and rock firm on the other. We know we've accepted Christ, and we know we're going to heaven when we die. But we sag in the middle. So how do we fix the sag? In this message, Jill helps us learn to obey and apply what the Bible teaches so that we can grow in our faith.

This is the 3rd message in Jill's 7-message series, "Here Am I, Send Aaron," from the Book of Exodus.

When you think of witnessing, what comes to mind? Many think witnessing is scary and intimidating. Others think it's something that just pastors and ministry leaders should do. But God believes witnessing is everyone's job, and He has given each and every one of us the tools to do it. In this message, Jill explains how we can learn to witness. This is the 1st message in Jill's 7-message series, "Here Am I, Send Aaron," from the Book of Exodus.

Do you believe that Jesus can do miracles in your life? Jesus' disciple Philip was an analytical, practical kind of guy, the one who would handle the details of the disciples' travel arrangements. This responsible, systematic personality, however, led him to have a hard time believing in the supernatural power of Jesus. Yet Jesus took the opportunity to give Philip, and us, glimpses of how powerful Jesus really is! In this message, Pete Briscoe introduces us to Philip and encourages us to avoid Philip's mistakes and fully embrace Jesus' supernatural power. With teaching from John 1:43, this is the final message in Pete's series Everyday Disciples.

The disciple John was a man surrounded by death. As the last of Jesus' 12 disciples left alive, he had to face the death of all his friends in some horrible ways. Yet he was a man who truly knew what Life was! Through his writings, we see that John had a firm grasp on what true Life really is and where it is found - in Christ alone. In this message, Pete Briscoe walks us through some of John's writings and points us to where eternal, satisfying, intimate, true Life is found. With teaching from John 20:31, this is the 4th message in Pete's series Everyday Disciples.

We all have things we're passionate about. While we'd like to say that our passions are for noble and selfless things, like helping the poor or feeding the hungry, most likely our passions take shape while we're stuck sitting in traffic or watching a bad call from the ref in a sporting event or feeling personally affronted by what someone says. Jesus' disciple James was no exception. He was a man full of misplaced, dangerous passion. But allowing his passion to be led by the Holy Spirit changed James into a man whose passion was dangerous - in a good way! In this message, Pete Briscoe shares with us some stories from James' life and guides us in dealing with our passion and the passionate people around us. With teaching from Luke 9:51, this is the 3rd message in Pete's series Everyday Disciples.

Ever feel like you don't belong? Like you're not in the "in" group? Jesus' disciple Matthew certainly did - as a tax collector, he was rejected and hated by his fellow Jews and by those in the "in" group. When Jesus called Matthew to be one of his followers, Matthew left his sinful lifestyle without hesitation - and then called his fellow "outsiders" to do the same! In this message, Pete Briscoe gives us the background of Matthew's story and shows us what this story really teaches us about Jesus himself. This is the 2nd message in Pete's series Everyday Disciples. Matthew 23; Matthew 9:9-13; Luke 18:8-14

When you think of Jesus' disciples, what do you picture? Do you picture superheroes or great, powerful men? The truth is that the disciples were just ordinary, everyday men! This group, hand-picked by Jesus, included no scholars, religious leaders, or especially talented men. We have examples of when they lacked faith, humility, spiritual understanding, and power. Yet despite their ordinariness, these men became testimonies of God's glory when He worked in and through them. In this message, Pete Briscoe introduces us to this ragtag group of men and shows us how God's power changed them from ordinary to extraordinary. With teaching from Mark 9, this is the 1st message in Pete's series Everyday Disciples.

In our culture today, one thing is glaringly obvious: Not all families are happy and not all marriages are intact, and there's a clear correlation between the two. One of the fascinating things sociologists are saying is that the weak link in the structure of the family is the relationship between the father and the child. If we are to look at what is causing very genuine concern in our world and what is happening in the disintegration of any families, perhaps they have given us a clue. We need to be looking at the relationship between the father and the children. Stuart Briscoe takes us to Ephesians 6:1-4 to explore God's plan for the role and responsibilities of fathers - for the well-being of our families and our culture as a whole.

Are you ever tempted to give up? Have you thought there's no use in continuing on? If you're helpless, that means your situation is beyond your ability to fix it. Pete shows us several verses that remind us of God's faithfulness to reign in our circumstances when we let Him. This message is the 3rd message in Pete's series, Changed by Christ. Mark 5
