How to Obey the Bible - Part 1

July 30, 2010
Many of us live a Christian life that's like a saggy bed. We're rock firm on one end and rock firm on the other. We know we've accepted Christ, and we know we're going to heaven when we die. But we sag in the middle. So how do we fix the sag? In this message, Jill helps us learn to obey and apply what the Bible teaches so that we can grow in our faith. This is the 3rd message in Jill's 7-message series, "Here Am I, Send Aaron," from the Book of Exodus.

Often times, you'll hear runners talk about the "wall" they hit when they are running. They can either stop running or push through the wall. Although it's hard to push through the wall, the reward is great because they usually experience a surge of energy and feel like they could run forever. As Christians, we can hit a "wall" that makes us feel stuck in our Christian walk. Although it's hard to push through it, when we do, we see a huge growth spurt. In this message, Jill explains how we can push through our "wall" to grow as a Christian. This is the 2nd message in Jill's 7-message series, "Here Am I, Send Aaron," from the Book of Exodus.

Most of us know that God has commanded us to share the gospel, and many of us would agree it's a hard thing to do. Maybe you feel scared to share, or maybe you don't have a lot of confidence in your ability to share. In this message, Pete explains how we can share the gospel by breaking it down into five steps we can take to feel confident about sharing the good news. This is the 10th and final message in Pete's series "Impacting Our World" and is based on Acts 8:26-39.

Rock climbing, public speaking, white-water rafting, and sharing the gospel are all activities that include a level of risk. Some people find it fun to take a risk, while others find it terrifying. Like it or not, taking risks as a believer, however scary, is something God wants us to do. In this message, Pete studies the life of Philip and discusses four risks we can take that will make a positive impact in our lives and the lives of others. This is the 9th message in Pete's series "Impacting Our World" and is based on Acts 8:4-25.

Professional athletes are often described by their coaches and their family as giving 100% to their sport all the time. This awesome effort, paired with their athletic ability, is why they have reached an elite level within their profession. God is looking for this same level of commitment, and He sent the Holy Spirit to help us. In this message, Pete looks to the life of Stephen as an example of what can happen when we are "sold-out" for Christ. This is the 8th message in Pete's series "Impacting Our World" and is based on Acts 6.

We all have times in our lives when we're so busy we just don't know how we'll get everything done. It's in times like these that we're grateful to have someone come alongside and help us. Many people who serve in the church feel this same sense of busyness that prevents them from completing tasks or reaching out to others. In this message, Pete explores ways we can help "share the load" by serving God in the church and the community. This is the 7th message in Pete's series "Impacting Our World" and is based on Acts 6.

We've all heard about kids who said they ate all of their vegetables, but they really fed them to the dog. And maybe there's been a time in your life when you agreed with something someone said, even though you knew it wasn't true. These lies may seem harmless, but in God's eyes they're not. In this message, Pete talks about two types of lying, the impact lying can have, and how we can change that behavior. This is the 6th message in Pete's series "Impacting Our World" and is based on Acts 5.

How do you know a young girl is in love? She talks about him all the time! And parents who love their kids often brag about them to everyone, and many of us know grandparents who talk about their grandkids constantly. The same is true if we're in love with Jesus - we talk about Him all the time. In this message, Pete looks at the life of Peter to help us understand how we can love Jesus more. This is the 4th message in Pete's series "Impacting Our World" and is based on Acts 3 & 4.
