How to Face a New Year - Part 2

January 2, 2015
"Where did the time go?" Most of us have asked that question at some point in our lives. The end of a year and the beginning of a new year confront us with the passage of time. We know time is limited and we know it is a gift, but we do not always know what to do with it.

Stuart Briscoe walks us through the book of Ecclesiastes to help us explore this issue, embrace the times and seasons of life, and experience "Life to the full."

Just before His crucifixion, Jesus told His disciples that they would soon "realize that I am in the Father, and you are in me, and I am in you" (John 14:20). As modern disciples, we must embrace the mystery of the mutual indwelling of which He spoke. Based on Ephesians 3:14-21, this is the final message in Stuart Briscoe's 4-message series, Immanuel - God with Us.

David the Psalmist described the experience of knowing "God with us," saying, "I will fear no evil for you are with me; your rod and staff they comfort me." In understanding and believing this, the heart's true comfort is found. Based on Psalm 23:1-6, this is the 3rd message in Stuart Briscoe's 4-message series, Immanuel - God with Us.

Moses asked if he could see God's glory, but he was told nobody can see God and survive. But God wants to be known, and He came "veiled in flesh" so that we could come to know Him and not be burned up by the experience. Based on John 1:1-18, this is the 2nd message in Stuart Briscoe's 4-message series, Immanuel - God with Us.

The angel announcing the birth of Christ explained that he would be known both as "Immanuel - God with us" and also "Jesus - because he will save his people from their sins." Enjoying Christmas involves grasping what this means. Based on Matthew 1:18-25, this is the 1st message in Stuart Briscoe's 4-message series, Immanuel - God with Us.

Our names speak of who we are and who God made us to be. Luke 2:11 speaks to four of Jesus' names: Savior, Christ, Lord, and Son of David. He rescued us by coming in from the outside and paying for our sins. He was the chosen one and no one could have accomplished what He did for us. By inviting Him in, He becomes our Lord and has deciding power in our individual lives. Therefore, we have no reason to fear because Jesus is who He says He is and will do what He said He'll do. This is the final message in Pete Briscoe's 3-message series, Have No Fear.

Since 2000, she and Stuart, who was formerly senior pastor of Elmbrook Church for 30 years, have had the joy of equipping and encouraging believers across the globe in their roles as ministers-at-large for Elmbrook.

Jill has authored more than 40 books including devotionals, study guides, poetry and children's books. Her vivid, relational teaching style touches the emotions and stirs the heart. She serves as Executive Editor of Just Between Us, a magazine of encouragement for ministry wives and women in leadership, and served on the board of World Relief and Christianity Today, Inc., for over 20 years.

Jill and Stuart call suburban Milwaukee, Wisconsin their home. When they are not traveling, they spend time with their three children, David, Judy and Peter, and thirteen grandchildren.
