Stuart and Jill Briscoe

God's Plan for Reconciliation, Part 2

February 9, 2016
Too often we focus on issues that divide us as a people instead of the things that unify us. And when that happens, there's the potential to stay within your collective group of like-minded people and treat others differently, maybe even judgmentally. How do you keep yourself from a judgmental worldview so that you can see people as God sees them - precious and in need of a Savior?

In this message, Stuart Briscoe teaches from Ephesians 2 and examines how the apostle Paul addresses issues that divide people. There's only one true way to overcoming what divides us, and if we embrace it, the effects can be revolutionary.

This message is included in two different series: God Has a Plan, and We're Part of It and Healing Broken Relationships.

Those of us who played organized sports in school may remember a time when the race or game was not going well, and we just wanted to give up. For many of us, it was the shouts from the sidelines that kept us going. We could hear the coach shouting, "Keep going - you can do it!" In the same way the coach keeps the team going, Christ keeps us going and guides us home. We just have to learn to turn everything in our lives over to Him. In this message, Jill explains how we can learn to let God "coach" us and find contentment in every circumstance. Based on Philippians 3 & 4, this is the 3rd message in Jill's 3-part series titled Spiritual Arts.

What people come to mind when thinking of those who have a servant attitude? Missionaries? Pastors? Yourself? Do you think that having a humble attitude is important? The apostle Paul had a servant heart and attitude. He continually gave himself away to benefit those around him. As a result, he was able to bring many people to Christ. We can impact those around us just as Paul did if we learn the spiritual art of humility. In this message, Jill explains how having a self-sacrificing attitude can impact others. Based on Philippians 2, this is the 2nd message in Jill's 3-part series titled Spiritual Arts.

What do you do when you are suffering through a hard time? Many of us sulk, complain, and feel sorry for ourselves. Others put on a strong face, but when they are alone, the fear and sadness take over, and they break down. Much of the apostle Paul's life was spent suffering - most of the time in jail. But unlike many of us, Paul was joyful no matter what his circumstance. This "spiritual art" of contentment was something Paul learned - and it wasn't easy. In this message, Jill uses Paul's life as an example of how we can learn contentment, joy, and peace of mind no matter what we are going through. Based on Philippians 1, this is the 1st message in Jill's 3-part series titled Spiritual Arts.

No one likes being told what to think. So we shouldn't be surprised when quarrels erupt over issues like environmentalism, immigration, or health care reform. It's easy to find yourself in a heated discussion that only leads to strained and broken relationships. In Matthew 10:16, we're told to be "shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves" as we interact with the world. But what does that look like in practical terms? In this message, Pete presents a model for thinking through issues like these so you can decide what decisions to make - or what positions to take - concerning today's hot topics. This is the 5th message in Pete's series Living in a Messed Up World. (Matthew 10:16-20; 2 Timothy 2:23-26)

We live in a world where moral and immoral ideas, life-giving and life-ending ideas, and liberty-affirming and rights-restricting ideas are all thought to have merit and be worthy of consideration. As a result, claiming that Jesus is the remedy for every hurt, transgression, broken situation, and societal ill is likely be met with a sneer. But we can't let sneers, name-calling, or fear stop us from sharing the incredible gift of Jesus. Paul never did. He was bold, even in the face of resistance and crowds of hecklers. In this message, Pete Briscoe digs into Acts 17 to show us what motivated Paul to time and time again proclaim Jesus, even in the most pagan-loving city of all, Athens. It's a message for us now as we struggle to tell a resistant world about Jesus. Based on Acts 17:16-34, this is the 4th message in Pete's series Living in a Messed Up World.
